Hi All,

Cold day here at Living Retreats and what is better to come back to after a morning run than a hot drink by a warm fire? Even better if it can appease any aching joints.

One of my go to recipes for any pain or sore muscle is my Turmeric & Ginger Tea. Did you know, people use anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or aspirin to cure inflammatory conditions when often Turmeric & Ginger are just as good, if not better, because they are natural.

Fresh Turmeric & Ginger look a bit scary at first, all bumpy and knobbly, but once the skin is peeled a whole new world of vibrancy is released.

<img class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-323″ src=”https://livingretreats.co.uk/assets/uploads/2016/01/Turmeric.jpg” alt=”Fresh Turmeric” width=”4272″ height=”2848″ />

The recipe is an easy one to follow; it’s so simple and can be made for a single cup or in a pan for a larger amount.

What you need:

Fresh Turmeric

Fresh Ginger

Lemon

Honey to taste (optional)

What to do:

Turn on the kettle and while you’re waiting for it to boil peel both the Ginger and Turmeric, Per cup I would recommend about half an inch of each. Cut both Turmeric and Ginger into a few slices and place into the cup with a squeeze of Lemon, you can add a slice here if you want too! Add the boiling water and let it stew for 3-5 minutes, this is where the vibrant colour of the Turmeric gets to work! Once those five minutes are up sit back and enjoy. This is where you can add honey to taste if required.

You can used ground Turmeric and Ginger instead of fresh, but you will have to sieve the mixture through a fine mesh before drinking. In my opinion it is worth the extra effort of finding fresh ingredients, as the benefits are paramount.

The benefits of fresh Turmeric are much better than that of the ground. During the process to create dried and ground Turmeric Curcumin is often removed. Curcumin is what makes Turmeric so beneficial for multiple health issues such as Alzheimer’s, pain relief, Anti-inflammatory, multiple sclerosis, weight loss, depression and better sleep!

Turmeric as a spice is very safe, which means if you take turmeric in small amounts it has no side effects. Pregnant women are advised to control consumption as it could stimulate the uterus.

So get down to the local supermarket, get the kettle on and embrace the powers of Turmeric! I’m enjoying mine with some Gluten Free Ginger biscuits, which I’ll tell you about later.

Cheers,

Jo x
